How Small Industries Blossom in Rajkot

At present Rajkot is the city of 1.7 million population. It is highly industrialized city having hundreds of foundries, thousands of machine shops, many fabrication shops and many specialized machine shops for gear cutting, plate bending, heat treatment to anything required for making machines and equipments. Main products are diesel engines, machine tools, ball bearings, submersible and centrifugal pumps, electric motors and so many industrial products.

Rajkot was a small village of 10000 population before 100 years and a small town of 0.15 million population before 50 years. It has spread into a big industrial city because of migration of farmers from villages for doing some business and industry. Farming community have small farms in villages and toiled there labour for the whole year but hardly meeting two ends together. They found that in Rajkot city it is very easy to earn money in industries without making hard physical labour which they were doing in the farms. So they started migrating to Rajkot. New migrants started with a very small industry in a room or in a very small shed. Even after expanding into big enterprises, real rural human honest culture is prevailing in industries as they were living in villages.

For establishing or starting a tiny industry, one has not to think what to manufacture and where to sell. Just a little skill to operate the lathe or machinery or fabrication shop etc is required. Purchase one or two lathes, drilling machine, hacksaw machine for metal cutting, some workshop tools, hire a small shed and start the industry. You have not to think at all what to manufacture and how to market it. Once you establish such a small machine shop, you will get some items to be machined in hundreds of quantity. Hire the lathe operators and a little staff, helpers etc and factory is started. You have not to think how to calculate machining charges of the components coming to your newly established factory. Machining charges for the particular component prevailing in the market will be paid to you honestly. Raw material in the form of steel will be dumped to your factory or casted components will come from the foundry which you have to machine in the finished components.  There is no business secret in Rajkot city. Anybody can go to anybody's factory and inquire what he is not knowing. He will be welcomed, greeted and will be replied happily to teach him. There will be humanitarian cooperation everywhere, no jealousy anywhere, no fear of competition anywhere. On the contrary there will be full sympathy for new comers. So in a short time, he will be absorbed  in a class of established manufacturing enterprises. He is not expected to be a expert in the machine where this component is to be fitted. He is expected to machine the component correctly within the tolerances explained to him. Lathe operators are quite clever in maintaining close tolerances. If they make any mistake and component is rejected, they have to pay the cost of the material also. So they remain very much vigilant not to make any mistake in machining.

Thousands of such machine shops are working in Rajkot, most of them are specialized for one particular component only. But every machine shop will be machining hundreds and thousands of quantity daily. All such diesel engine components are manufactured on job work basis in this way. Machine shop owner has not to invest anything for raw material and he has not to worry about marketing of the component he manufactures. Factory owners who produce diesel engines have not to invest anything for construction of a big factory, has not to recruit man power, has not to invest anything for machine shop. He has to simply invest in raw materials and finished products will be dumped to his factory just by a phone call.

So diesel engine manufacturer is only the assembler, not manufacturing any component. He purchases all the components from different manufacturers simply by phone call. No written purchase order is necessary. After he receives all the components and inspects it properly, he will sign the cheque for the invoice of the components. If he desires to purchase steel, round bars,  angles, channels, plates, sheets etc, it comes just by a phone call. No written purchase order. Even if you want in truck loads or a few kg, just one phone call is enough. If you want to assemble 100 diesel engines in one day, it can be done just by a phone call! Various gangs of expert assembling technicians are available and they will perfectly assemble the engines and they will charge only 2 US$ per engine. No factory staff required. If you want to pack your 100 or more diesel engines in wooden boxes, only one phone call will be enough. Specialized wooden box manufacturers will do the job on the same day and you will get all the machines duly packed into export worthy wooden boxes. If you want to transport something to somewhere in the city or even to port, just one phone call will be enough.

If you want to make any special component or any pressure vessel by doing fabrication, just contact relevant fabrication shop or make a phone call, explain everything on phone or at the most rough sketch on waste paper will be enough. Purchase plates etc by phone call to dump at fabrication shop and pressure vessel will be ready for you. Then you have to make payment for it.  If you want any forging component, go to the forging shop with sample, he will work out the rates for thousands of pieces. Once you approve the rates on telephone, he will forge thousands of number as per your phone call and will dump to your factory. Then you have to sign the cheque for his invoice. No written purchase order is necessary. Such business relations are almost 100% honest.

Recently many machine shops with CNC and VMC expensive machines have come up in Rajkot city. Some people have 5 or 10 CNC or VMC machines costing millions of Rupees. They also never think what to manufacture in it or where to sell that item. They simply establish small factory with CNC machines and manufacturers approach there for machining of their components. In CNC machine, perfect drawing of the component is essential. But if there is no drawing, machine shop owner will make it or will help to make it on request and will get your approval. All such specialized CNC and VMC machine shops are also working on job work basis i.e. per hour basis say 5 US$ per hour.

Rural people working in their farms have migrated from villages to Rajkot and established all such businesses intuitively. Mostly all the farmers are potential entrepreneurs. Even though they are not much educated, they run the business of millions of Rupees, go on making progress and establish big factories also and run it profitably. The first generation migrated from villages to Rajkot between 1960 to 1970 have become big industrialists without much education, but with inherent skill in their minds. They are more than technicians. over and above they understand the technicality of the product, they are highly enterprising having self confidence to run the calculated business risk of millions of rupees and millions of dollars. They have never heard of management schools ( where only exploitative management is taught) and no knowledge of English language, but they have their own inherent indigenous management skill and innocent benign culture and traditions for cooperation to everybody by which they have developed thousands of industrial units in Rajkot which are blossoming day by day.

Total sum of this activity is unimaginably cheap production. Diesel engines are available at throw away price. Just by one example you will understand this. In a diesel engine 400kg of cast iron and steel is used which cost Rs 20000/-. Then all components are machined. Fuel pump and bearings are added as costly components. Then engine is assembled, tested for many hours and then painted and packed in to wooden box. Such finished diesel engine is also available at raw material prices of Rs 20000/- !! Then what about added cost of machining, bearings, fuel pump, assembling cost, testing cost, packing cost etc? Seems impossible? But it is hard miracle. secret is that while machining of components, some scrap is generated. the value of scrap is more than machining cost, assembling cost, testing cost painting cost and packing cost all added to gether! So labour cost is extremely low. Profit margins are extremely low. Nobody in the world can make sophisticated diesel engines at such a low cost. This miracle is achieved not by cut throat competition - nobody will think  here to cut somebody's throat for the sake of money. It is achieved by throat saving cooperation which we learn from our inherited culture and traditions. We always love to live peacefully with entire world as one family. VASUDHAIVA KUTUMBAKAM which means entire universe is family for us. Rajkot is the city of mahatma Gandhi. But honesty, integrity, humanity, cooperation and virtues prevailing in industrial atmosphere is not because of Mahatma Gandhi. It is inherent in our blood. On the contrary, all these virtues prevailing inherently in our people have culminated in to Mahatma Gandhi.

This inherent skill and human culture is not limited to Rajkot city only. You will find same picture at surrounding centres such as Jamnagar  ( biggest brass parts centre of India) , Jasdan ( Very small town famous for threshing machines), Morbi ( famous ceramic city of India) and if we go farther, Bhiwandi for small power looms, Coimbatore Tirpur belt for spinning mills and knitting, Ludhiana Jullundhar Amritsar, Delhi Ghaziabad Ahmedabad and many such specialized industrial centers have come up with special inherent skills of the common people. This inherent skill works not only for small things but also for entire process plants also. If you want oil mill or oil refinery or ice plant, or solvent extraction plant,  you need not have any drawing of any component. Expert technicians with inherent skills can make refinery with all vessels and complicated integrated pipe lines or ice plant or solvent extract plant or even a huge project of vitrified flooring tiles costing millions of dollars. Everything will be at heart and at his memory. No drawing is required. It is impossible to think for engineers or European people, but it is reality for Indian people. Hundreds of vitrified flooring tiles projects established in Morbi town, each project costing Rs 600 million have been established by such farmers entrepreneurs, who had never gone beyond high school in education and they are running very much successfully. This is our indigenous management without learning into any management school. So Indian people have developed various types of industries by themselves without any support from government.

It will be interesting to know, what is the role of government for such industries. The government has very clear policy to crush and kill such industries to pave the way for huge multinational corporations. So called industrialization imposed by Europe is horrible and terrible for our country. Gandhiji opposed it and cautioned that it will result in to automatic killing of entire population in the shortest time MOST PROFITABLY which even Changis Khan ( who wanted to kill entire India) could not conceive.  In reality government considers entire population as thieves and thugs and so government formulated various kinds of repressive laws to control these people as if they are thieves and thugs. So every person running a small industry fears of government. Almost 35 types of inspectors from Income tax, VAT, municipal property tax, labour laws and so on may come to harass the factory owners. They have vast unilateral repressive powers to investigate books of accounts, to make huge penalty,  confiscate any property and send the entrepreneur to jail. They understand to some extent that laws are unjust to industrialists and not practical. So they use their own discretion and do not become so harsh to send any person to jail. But they threaten to take actions against entrepreneurs or industrialists and they accept the big bribe for not taking actions. Every law is meant to bring the entrepreneurs under slavery. Every entrepreneur understands that laws are against him. So he has to submit anyhow. So practical way is to give bribe and settle the matter and save from the harassment. So every entrepreneur entreats all types of inspectors and sometimes their higher bosses as if he is the slave. Thus every person running such industry has to accept the slavery of government bureaucracy. In spite of suffering such inhuman harassment, people are developing by themselves because of our own humanitarian culture.

But political leaders running the government never miss any opportunity to claim the credit of all such developments as if they have made entire development. No any political leader has any capacity to remove repressive laws and harassment of the Government bureaucracy. Swaraj (freedom) is millions of miles away for all such entrepreneurs even though billions of Rupees of tax revenue is paid by this industrial community. Alas! Alas! Alas!

Appeal To European Elites

Human nature is same throughout the world. I have widely traveled in Europe and also in Africa. I found that people are nice everywhere. Most of the people are humanitarian having compassion, mercy, and good feelings. So human beings are same everywhere.

But economically, world is divided into two parts. Developed countries are having very much comfortable living with all amenities of life available to everybody. While developing countries have a lot of poverty, hunger, malnutrition, unemployment and many kinds of miseries for most of the people but handful of people in developing countries also have very high standard of living comparable with European people.

However most of the people in the developed countries have no correct picture how poor people in developing countries are living. So I want to give you some eye opening facts by which European Elites can understand the situation better.

For a while imagine that a person living in Europe is having the income of Euro 60000/- per year which is considered reasonably good income in Europe. But for a while imagine that price of the gasoline is Euro 50/- per liter instead of Euro 1/-. Imagine that   price of milk is Euro 20/- per liter instead of Euro 1/-. Imagine that the price of bread is Euro 17/- per kg. instead of Euro 2/- per kg. Imagine that  price of sugar is Euro 22/- per kg. instead of Euro 1/- per kg. Imagine that  price of tea is Euro 150/- per kg. instead of Euro 4/-. Imagine that cost of one pair of shirt and trouser is Euro 500/- instead of Euro 20/- to 25/-. Imagine that the cost of electricity per KWH is Euro 5/- and monthly electricity bill is Euro 1500/- instead of Euro 80/- per month. Imagine that monthly bill of cooking LPG gas is Euro 400/- instead of Euro 40/- per month. Imagine that telephone costs Euro 2/- per minute instead of 10 cents per minute.

But you will be impatient that why to imagine all such nonsense high rates. But it has very deep sense. So please keep patience to imagine some more items. Imagine that the cost of the computer is Euro 25000/- instead of Euro 500/-. Imagine that  the cost of the television is Euro 12000/- instead of Euro 250/-. Imagine that the cost of the refrigerator is also Euro 12000/- instead of Euro 300/-. Imagine that washing machine costs Euro 10000/- instead of Euro 300/-. Imagine that car is costing Euro 300000/- instead of Euro 10000/-.

OK let us stop here. Now please think over what will be the situation of household budget of every family in your country ? How you will survive with so much 30 to 40 times inflated rates with the same income of Euro 60000/- per year ? You will feel that these are imaginary figures and it has nothing to do with the realities.

But no. Just substitute Rupee (Indian currency) in place of Euro and all the figures are exactly  realities related to lower middle class millions of people of India. Rs. 60000/- is the average annual income of lower middle class of Indian families which is considered as good income. And they purchase their requirement at exactly the same rates which I have given above duly substituted in Rupees. i.e. gasoline at Rs. 50/- per liter, milk Rs. 20/- per liter, bread at Rs 17 per kg, sugar at Rs 22 per kg etc. Now just imagine how Indian people will be surviving ? I have given the example of lower middle class which are quite above than really poor people. Almost 750 million people in India have income far less than Rs. 60000/- per annum. So their situation is beyond my imagination. So I am not describing their situation. But I am describing lower middle class which is upper class than poor people. But you will understand that with above rates and above income, no European person can survive. However millions of Indian families are surviving with above income and above rates. So you can imagine with what difficulty they will be living. Perhaps you can not imagine how people will be surviving with such heavy prices. Naturally they can survive by cutting the cost, by purchasing less, by avoiding to purchase, by eating less, by giving less milk to their children, by avoiding costly facilities in their homes and so on. So standard of living drops drastically.

How such a wide gap in standard of living between developed and developing countries has emerged is really interesting subject to study. This happens by devaluation of money by Governments of developing countries which is forced by World Bank, IMF and WTO just to exploit the resources of developing countries for the benefit of developed countries. The direct result of the devaluation is that all the commodities produced in the developing countries become cheaper in the developed world at the cost of poor people in the developing countries making them poorer and all the commodities and services in developed countries become very costly to developing countries making them further poorer. I can explain this by concrete examples. Before 50 years, currencies of various African countries were higher than US dollar. Ghana Cedi was equivalent to 2 US dollars, Sudanese pound was equivalent to 3US dollar, Zambian Kwacha was equivalent to 3 US dollars, Zimbabwe dollar was far bigger than US dollar, Nigerian Naira was equivalent to 2 US dollar etc etc. All the currency coins in African countries were of pure gold before 50 to 60 years.

At present 8885 Ghana Cedi is equal to one US dollar,206 Sudanese Dinar is equal to one US dollar, 3308 Zambian Kwacha is equal to one US dollar, 100990 Zimbabwe dollar is equal to one US dollar, 123 Nigerian Naira  is equal to one US dollar and so on!!!

Just imagine the fun now. 60 years back, if an importer of fresh vegetables in London wanted to import 100 tonnes of vegetables from any country of Africa, he would have paid pound sterling 100000 at the rate of one sterling pound per kg. Now situation is such that same importer can import 100 tonnes of vegetables by paying simply say 500 pound sterling only. Difference of 2000 times cheaper has become due to heavily forced devaluation. 500 sterling pounds mean millions of currencies in African countries. Figure is very big but its buying power is so much less that it has less value than a toilet paper in Europe. So all the commodities produced in developing countries are extracted mercilessly almost at negligible cost for the benefit of European people. Similarly all the products produced in Europe is becoming thousands time costly to the people of developing countries. Thus two way exploitation crush the people of developing countries heavily resulting in to lot of poverty, hunger, malnutrition, unemployment and many kinds of miseries.

Really Europe and USA have become victim of centralization and giantism. They have become victim of the mania of development through heavily centralized and giant production and distribution system. Big big factories, big big malls, big big far away transport system, millions of cars and trucks and long long highways. bread produced at one corner goes to another corner, milk consumed at a place comes from 1000 km away. So all your energy and resources are wasted only in transport and distribution system. This is the main reason why you have to exploit the entire world. And still your life system is not happy at all.

I have observed that in Europe and USA, average woman gets up early in the morning drives 50 to 100 km and reaches to factory or store at 7 am, works monotonously for 8 hours as drudgery which she hates and comes back after 10 to 11 hours absence from her children. She does not get any enjoyment or job satisfaction in her work. She hates everything she has to do. Compared to this, Indian or African women working in small farms as labourers get far more job satisfaction even though they get tired of physical labour. If they go for cotton picking, their hands are working fast for picking cotton, but they chit chat, they discuss about society, their relatives, their own miseries or even they tell stories while working in the farms. They hardly travel 2 km from their homes of course on foot. They would have lived far happier life than present Europe if they were not exploited internally and internationally.

In fact, path of happiness is very simple. If most of the people in Europe and USA start working in the backyard of their homes producing some item or commodity of their primary requirements with the help of simple and small technology and thus create local economy, people will become far happier. They will work for themselves and they will work with lot of interest and so they will not feel drudgery. They will be enjoying their work. They will work as per their own desire. They have not to travel. So no tension to reach in time or traffic jam. This way, Europe and USA can build very strong economy without slightest exploitation of poor countries. This is the real way of making all the people of the world happy without any exploitation. This is the only way of eradicating poverty from the entire world.

If you share the above views, please use your intelligence and brain how to implement above thinking in actual practical life, how to create local economy, what to produce in the backyard of your home, where to sell it, how much you can earn from it etc. MY BASIC CONVICTIONS and MY ENERGY CONVICTIONS given in my website will be helpful in your thinking. The biggest tragedy is that all the intelligent and clever people in Europe and USA are simply thinking how to get better job and how to increase their salary. This is the thinking of a helpless person. This is not thinking of independent vital person enjoying freedom. Situation in the developed world is  really dangerous.

If you can start tiny industry  in the backyard of your home and thus create local economy even at micro level, it is the surest way to abolish the exploitation of not only of developed people like you but also exploitation of poor countries by developed countries.

So envigour your brains with fresh ideas and start thinking.

I am your real friend and real well wisher.

My Prayer For Africa

God may inspire African Elites to realize and refrain from European concept of so called development through heavy centralized industries, huge factories, mass production and large shopping malls and essential consequences of poverty, unemployment, starvation, dangerous disparity etc arising from that so called development.

God may inspire African Elites to realize beauty of family centered economy and to understand dangers of company centered economy.

God may inspire African Elites to realize and implement  golden principle of " produce locally consume locally" and happiness lying in it.

God may inspire African Elites to digest the concept of simple living and high thinking and lead their people to create self reliant societies, self sustained villages and create happiness peace and harmony in the society.

God may inspire African people to refrain from drinking, smoking and imitation of European wasteful life style.

God may inspire African people to refrain from polygamy and wasting the precious life in lust.

Appeal To African Elites

I am working for rural development internationally particularly for African countries. I have visited Africa four times and moved in several countries and I am trying to understand African people with a keen interest. I am very much distressed to see dangerous disparity in all the African countries i.e. only a handful of people having captured most of the wealth of the country and millions of masses remaining hand to mouth. I have also observed that most of the races of Africa have inner spirit and good capabilities to come up in line with so called civilized and developed countries. So I am very much optimistic that Africa is competent enough to come out as the strongest continent of the world in a very short period of 10 to 20 years and can provide alternative to the western life style which has no future as it is based on exploitation of the entire world. I am humbly describing myself as real friend and real well wisher of African people because I have burning desire to remove their merciless exploitation being done through various multinational and big companies. I want to humbly show real path of happiness for common masses. I am carrying in my heart certain BASIC CONVICTIONS which force me to suggest that if the path which I am recommending is followed by African people, it will bring economic revolution in Africa and also in the world in one or two decades through which Africa will come out as the strongest continent.

But I have painfully observed that most of the elite class of every African country is under illusion that model of development and progress imposed on them by developed countries is correct and path of development and progress shown by developed countries is real path. So all the Governments of Africa follow the same pattern of development as Europe and U.S.A. followed. So every African country is trying to establish big industries, is trying to develop highways, cities, power stations, ports, airports and infrastructure required by giant industries. I VENTURE TO ASSERT THAT THIS IS NOT THE PATH OF HAPPINESS BUT THIS IS THE PATH OF EXPLOITATION AND PERMANENT SLAVERY OF AFRICAN PEOPLE. If you want homogeneous development and progress of entire society of millions of masses, you have to evolve your own economic strategy based on local self reliance atleast for primary needs of people i.e. for food, cloth and shelter and energy consumed in it. Very evidently this type of local self reliance can be achieved through cottage scale family size industries based on small and simple technology. When I came to know about big maize mills purchasing maize from hundreds of villages, I was really shocked. Tremendous amount of exploitation can be eliminated simply by establishing tiny tiny maize mills everywhere where ever necessary. Maize milling is the simplest technology. A very ordinary workshop can manufacture maize mills. But it is a painful wonder that throughout Africa, big maize mills are working resulting in to heavy exploitation of common masses. Nature of technology is such that complicated machinery makes simple thing also complicated.

Primary needs such as maize flour, wheat flour, rice, cooking oil, sugar, jaggery, tea coffee, soap, cloth, bricks, tiles and building materials etc. are all simple things and all these things must be manufactured at cottage scale level with very simple and cheap technology. THIS IS THE PATH OF HAPPINESS. BIG COMPLICATED MACHINERY HAS NO PLACE IN MANUFACTURING PRIMARY NEEDS OF PEOPLE. WHENEVER AND WHERE EVER YOU VIOLATE THIS PRINCIPLE, YOU GIVE RISE TO EXPLOITATION, ANY COUNTRY OR SOCIETY WHICH IS BEING EXPLOITED FOR PRIMARY NEEDS OF PEOPLE, CAN NEVER COME UP AND IS DESTINED TO RUIN.

Many people raise doubts that how all the primary needs can be fulfilled through cottage industries. How cloth and electricity can be produced at cottage scale. I know that number of such questions can be raised. I must admit that I have no ready made solution for every such question. But I do have strong faith and conviction that every such question can be transformed in to a pleasant solution if dedicated efforts are made to develop small and simple technology for every kind of primary needs. You must know that previously world best quality cloth was produced in millions of houses of India since centuries with very simple tools and equipments not costing even 100 dollars. It can be still produced in millions of houses if controls imposed on cottage industries for favoring giant centralized economy are abolished. A very fine quality of jaggery (hygienically better than sugar) is still produced at cottage scale practically at every sugarcane farm in spite of strict controls of our government to abolish this farm level industry for favoring giant sugar factories. Bricks and lime is still a cottage industry throughout India. There are at least 1000 tiny flour mills in my city alone (population 1.4 million). Oil milling was also cottage industry throughout India since centuries. Our Government made foolish blunder to abolish it.

So my most sincere advice to African elite class is that "You should immediately return from the dangerous path which leads to exploitation, ruin and perish. You should evolve your own path based on decentralized, small and simple machinery which will have no exploitative capacity. Only such machinery will be blessing to the mankind. Through such simple technology only, you will be able to create homogeneously happy society and such happy society will be right answer, right solution and right alternative to the western type wasteful and exploitative civilization. THOSE WHO WORK FOR THIS CAUSE ARE REAL FRIENDS OF HUMANITY.

One most common doubt is raised against such tiny industries is that whether such tiny units are economically viable and can compete to big units ? It is really strange that such question is asked from every part of the world. So it seems that entire world is under illusion that big heavy industries are more viable. This is absolutely wrong. In fact tiny units are always more viable than big centralized industries. One can imagine that tiny units enjoy four distinct advantages over big centralized units. i.e. (1) Transport is eliminated or minimized (2) Packaging is eliminated or people use their own tins, bins, jars etc. (3) Middlemen are eliminated. (4) Marketing is eliminated or minimized and hence all evils of marketing such as profiteering, hoarding, speculation, adulteration, deception, shortage etc. are automatically eliminated. Tiny units for basic needs will work for local consumption with local raw materials. So all the four advantages will go to tiny units. So they are bound to be far strongly more viable than big centralized units. I have proved this contention beyond doubt by establishing 1400 tiny cooking oil mills which are running most successfully, most profitably and most satisfactorily in India and 80 countries. What is true for tiny oil mills can be proved true for other industries of basic needs including tiny power plants also. So I sincerely appeal to all AFRICAN ELITES to come out from false illusions of development, to throw away present theory of development, to ponder over the alarming situation of present age and seriously adopt this pious work of rural development through tiny scale industries with strong faith that entire Africa can be got rid of entire exploitation and entire continent can be made happy without any big industry. I am absolutely confident that one who will determine to work in this direction, will definitely meet with great success and he will earn the credit for making great revolutionary changes in Africa through small deeds.

Appeal To Thermal Power Engineers

Mahatma Gandhi has asserted that pre-condition of happy society is that all the means of production of primary needs of the people must be in the hands of the common masses. This applies to all the primary needs such as rice, sugar, jaggery, oil, cloth, footwear, and also electricity and power. Gandhiji was deadly against heavy and giant industries. So he was against giant thermal power plants also. He once asserted that cables of transmission lines can be only used by common people for wrapping around neck and committing suicide. He also once asserted that we (People of India) should learn appropriate use of steam and electricity for common masses. So it is very clear from Gandhiji's stand point that steam power should be produced and utilized at very small scale level in the farms and villages wherever it is to be utilized.

I am 75 years  mechanical engineer and understood Gandhiji's thinking at my age of 20 years. It is quite clear that by promoting huge thermal power plants, no happy society is created. It is very much evident that huge thermal power plants create huge disparity in the society by making available huge power to very big factories owned by very rich people and on the other hand 50% population of India have no power connection in their homes even for single bulb. Entire rural India and agriculture sector is facing huge shortage of electricity and they are suffering injustice since last 70 years. This is naked result of giant thermal power plants. Our government has grossly neglected Gandhiji and fact is that government is betraying Gandhiji since last 70 years. So every engineer working for giant thermal power plants is committing sin against humanity, no matter innocently and inadvertently.

So my humble and hearty appeal to all such engineers is to just look the vision of Mahatama Gandhi which provides extremely simple and cheap solution for creating happiness in villages and throughout India. Based on Gandhiji's thinking, I developed the idea of tiny thermal power plants and tiny solar power plants. I developed Steam Engines from 5 HP to 50 HP. Very simple steam boilers can be manufactured in villages. Steam engine + Boiler becomes the simplest tiny thermal power plant for mechanical power. 90% power used at present is in the form of mechanical power. So electricity generation can be conveniently avoided. I am exporting such tiny devices up to 20 HP in developed countries of Europe, USA, Australia, Canada etc. In the following paragraphs you can study the eye-catching advantages of Tiny Thermal Power Plants as against Giant Thermal Power Plants. So my appeal to all thermal engineers working for giant thermal plants is that you should divert your attention from giant thermal power plants to tiny thermal power plants. It will create very quickly huge prosperity and unimaginable happiness in entire India and almost ideal homogeneous society can be created by decentralizing thermal power plants to farms and villages. Out of your huge budget, you can initially divert 10 to 20% budget for establishing tiny thermal power plants in farms and villages. It is extremely simple and very very cheap and highly efficient. So please ponder over the following paragraphs and if your conscience is convinced, then please go to the direction of Gandhiji. Please note that the following thinking is based on my 50 years of practical experience and it has been widely appreciated internationally by many many engineers, humanitarians and scientists working internationally. As per my vision, in next 30 years, millions of tiny thermal power plants will be established and giant coal based thermal power plants will lose their relevance in the economy and will start closing down, remaining as skeletons of madness of human mind.

It is quite possible that even though most of the engineers understand and grasp Gandhiji's vision, they may not be able to change the policy from giant power plants to tiny power plants. There is a quick solution for providing power to entire India in Gandhiji's vision. As per my own estimate, within 5 years only, abundant power can be produced wherever it is to be utilized. i.e. in 5 HP to 20 HP mechanical power simply by steam engine and boiler. So while working in giant power plant, you have a huge scope of making 10 million rural boilers of 500 kg/hour or smaller capacity. You must be well versed in boiler making and if you can help to rural people to make boiler locally for self use by farmers, I am sure that every thermal engineer can earn millions of rupees and still they get blessings from entire rural India. This is not Utopian thinking but this is based on my sound experience of earning millions of rupees from rural technology. I have exported my tiny products based on Gandhiji's thinking in 102 countries and really we have earned millions of rupees and I am also getting blessings from all over the world. So if someone understands Gandhiji's vision and if his conscience is inclined to work for it, I have a pleasant solution for this dilemma as above.

Now please read the benefits of tiny thermal power plants described below. If interested, you can read my many articles in my web site.

HUGE SCOPE OF TINY THERMAL POWER PLANTS

Liberalization of power generation has opened vast opportunities for small generation capacities in villages. Steam energy is coming back very fast as blessing for local distributed generation. There is bright scope of establishing 10 million tiny thermal power plants of 10 kw capacity in farms and villages of India.  Tiny thermal power plant to which we call tiny steam power plant specifically is the simplest power plant consisting of only two equipments i.e. small biomass boiler  where steam will be produced by burning any biomass and steam engine which is revolved by steam to give mechanical power to  run any machine such as water pump for irrigation, rice huller for rice milling, flour mill for grain grinding, sugarcane crusher to extract sugarcane juice, oil expeller to get cooking oil or generator for electricity and lighting. Such tiny steam power plants will have the following eye catching advantages:-

  1. Rural electrification is unsolved problem since last 60 years. 80 million poor homes have no electricity in villages of India. Giant thermal power plants with transmission and distribution lines involving thousands of crores of rupees will not solve this problem fully even in next 20 years. Installing Tiny Steam Power Plants is the quickest solution at minimum cost. All un electrified villages can be electrified in 2 years at 20% cost of the budget being spent by the government for this purpose. For tiny thermal power plant, no transmission lines, no distribution lines, no losses.
  2. Tiny thermal power plants will be very cheap. 10 kw steam power plant costs only Rs 4 lakhs which may become cheaper by mass production. Considering cost of transmission and distribution lines, transformers, losses in it, losses in converting electricity to mechanical power etc, investment in tiny power plants will be only 20% than in giant thermal power plants. So with same investment, about 5 times capacity can be built in a very short period of 3 years only.
  3. Tiny power plant will use steam engine which is simple technology. The technology of steam engine is not a new technology. We should remember that entire British empire was built and expanded in the world by using steam engines in boats and steamers, in vehicles and railways, in war equipments, in factories, in textile mills and so on. Steam engine is so much simple that even in villages, it can be produced on lathe.
  4. Tiny power plants with steam engines will greatly contribute for water lifting problem. Entire rural India is facing heavy shortage of electric power in agriculture sector and as electricity is never available in time, farmers are losing their crops. This can be avoided and problem can be solved by Tiny power plants with steam engines.
  5. Tiny steam power plants can be operated on biomass, agricultural waste, crop residue, forestry waste, wood etc. So farmers can produce their own power. So farmers will be independent from the harassment and tyranny of electricity authority. THIS WILL BE THE BIGGEST HAPPINESS TO VILLAGERS. In India, about 20000 MW power can be produced from 280 million tonnes of biomass through tiny steam power plants.
  6. Tiny power plants with steam engines will greatly encourage co-generation with Combined Heat & Power application in oil milling, sugarcane crushing, rice milling etc. Waste heat of steam engine can be gainfully utilized for ice making and refrigeration without any running cost. So tiny steam power plants will be highly efficient and blessing to villagers. The huge amount of heat created by burning coal is simply wasted in giant thermal power plants which is not possible to use it. Huge amount of cooling water is required in giant thermal power plant simply to dispose off heat energy in atmosphere which creates huge problem of water and environment.
  7. Tiny power plants with steam engines will be established in villages and hence it will greatly save transport expenses of agricultural produces from villages to cities. So import of diesel will be reduced and traffic burden on highways will be reduced.
  8. Tiny steam power plants will greatly contribute for rural development, income and employment generation in villages and homogeneous development of the country. Benefits of this can not be measured in rupees. In fact, this will be real development.
  9. In most of the industries, direct mechanical power will be more convenient and generation of electricity will not be required. So investment cost of generators and motors will be saved. Efficiency of direct mechanical power is always higher than converting in to electricity and using electric motors for mechanical power.
  10. Tiny boilers of tiny steam power plants are designed to accept any type of biomass fuel. It can work for coal also. So small steam steam power plants will be blessing to small farmers. it will get more and more importance particularly in agriculture and agro processing industries. In case of giant thermal power plants, design of boiler is for specific type of coal only. Any type of coal can not work there. So if it is designed for the coal of Jharkhand, it can not work with Meghalaya coal.
  11. Gestation period of giant thermal power plant is 3 to 4 years and that of atomic power plant is 10 years, while tiny power plant can be installed in maximum one month.
  12. Tiny steam power plants can be converted in to tiny SOLAR power plants in future simply by adding solar concentrator which will become cheaper and affordable and economically viable in a few years only. Giant thermal power plants can not be converted to solar power plants. So when solar power will be abundant, huge investment made for giant thermal power plants will be simply wastage.

Thus we can bring real revolution in rural India by establishing 10 million tiny steam power plants.

Appeal To Engineers

We are living in the era of engineers. Progress of science and technology has created innumerable amenities for happy life. Much of the comfort and luxuries created by industrial progress is due to the dedicated efforts of thousand of engineers, technologist and scientist. Hence, there is no exaggeration in saying that we are living in the era of engineers.

But the industrial development as seen today is not so innocent. It has its black side also. Present industrial progress is associated with exploitation, disparity, unemployment, poverty, centralization, urbanization, pollution, displacement of innocent poor people and wars also. Moreover, it makes our life more and more complex which gives rise to tension in our routine life. Infact, it encourages materialism and greed for luxurious life at any cost. So if we assess the industrial progress in totality, we have to come to the conclusion that its debit side far outweighs its credit side. This is particularly true for a country like India.

Since centuries, we had the most scientific and well organized economic structure based on self reliant villages. Crores of people were living their simple life peacefully in villages. Most of the people had their own occupation. We have damaged this sound structure heavily in the name of industrialization. We have disturbed entire village lifestyle by exploiting masses by breaking their occupations and by concentrating wealth into handful of industrialists. This has created unemployment, poverty and dispartiy. At present our 50 crores of villagers are living miserable life worse than animals . They are so unfortunate that they have to sleep with their hungry stomach every day. They are victims of our so-called industrial development.

I feel that real reason of undesirable consequences of industrial progress is because engineers are helpless to work for greed of money. We give more importance to our salaries and to our prospects for our personal happiness than to consider the impact of our work on society.

I admit that after putting in hard labour for years together to achieve degree of engineering, we have right to expect something which may provide us comfortable life. But I have painfully observed that matter does not end there. Every type of greed has no end. Once engineer gets comfortable life, he expects more and more comfort and luxuries. We engineers, never think of the result of our work on society. We conveniently ignore the consequences of the industrial progress which we are making even after knowing that our efforts to manufacture certain machinery or goods or services will result in increasing exploitation, unemployment and poverty of masses. We are not paying any attention towards it. We are not accepting any responsibility of increasing evils of the industrial development. This leads to the conclusion to me that we are selfish for our own comfortable and luxurious life. To accomplish it, we are dedicating our entire intelligence and perseverance to foster the centralized industrial structure, sole purpose of which is to make profit by exploiting masses without any consideration of morality. In this way we are cooperating in the advancement or evils in the society. It is really deplorable that not a few engineers are found who will deny to work where their work is ultimately going to result into evident exploitation of masses.

We must ponder over this horrible situation. We must try to find out why industrial progress results into horrible disparity giving handful of people too much luxuries and to millions of people only miseries. We must try to find out why the centralization of wealth and power takes place due to industrial progress.

But I know that many engineers are not satisfied with their jobs. They know that their hard labour put for earning their livelihood results into the exploitation of masses. So they have discontent for their work. They feel pity for masses. They have sympathy for them. But they feel themselves helpless in the matter. They do not find any alternative. They desire to come out of the present situation. But they do not know how to do it. They feel some vacuum in their life. They feel lack of morality in their work. Hence, their conscience always rebel against their job. They are eager to help the poor people either by changing their job or by starting their own business. But they do not know how to do it.

I have to specially appeal to such engineers. There are hundreds of scopes in the present day society for earning your livelihood and helping the poor people. These vast scopes are in villages. Although our decentralized rural economic structure has been severely damaged, it is not completely ruined. It is still living. It is repairable. I am optimistic that if thousands of Engineers pay enough attention to the real needs of villages and they vow to work for villages, within two decades only, entire village based economy can be re-established. If this is done, India will come out as the strongest country of the world and it will lead to the world on the path of peace and real happiness.

I want to emphatically assert that not only small is beautiful and small is possible, but also small is inevitable in every industrial field. It may be energy, textile, sugar, oil, fertilizer, paper, steel, automobile or aeroplane making. This is the demand of 21st century.

This is not wishful thinking. This is really achievable and practicable. Really no great sacrifices are necessary to achieve this great goal. I will humbly state that only condition to reach this situation is that Engineers must come out of the present dogma of industrial development leading to giant centralized mass productions systems and they should understand properly the significance of decentralized production by masses scattered into millions of cottages and homes which can impart real happiness to the entire humanity. We, engineers, must turn our faces towards half million  depleted villages of India and we must vow to work for them only. We must abandon jobs and business which give rise to exploitation of masses and we must find out such business which can prosper the villages and common masses. If this is done, revolutionary miracle will happen within two decades only.

But you may raise the doubt how miracle will happen, how present giant evils will disappear and what business hundreds of engineers can adopt. These are natural questions. My reply is very simple. Various giant evils seen in the present society are associated with giant industries. IF INDUSTRIES ARE DECENTRALIZED TO TINY SCALE, MAGNITUDE OF THE EVILS ALSO WILL BE REDUCED TO TINY SCALE. Spread of tiny cottage industries in millions of houses in rural areas will bring about balanced homogenous economic growth, which will eradicate most of the economic evils generated by giant industries.

I have specially studied some statistics of India and I have come to the conclusion that all the major industries including the core sector industries can be easily decentralized to very tiny scale as cottage industries. Particularly agro based industries need immediate attention for decentralization. I have conviction that no question of economic viability is going to arise for tiny scale cottage industries. On the contrary, tiny cottage industries are naturally the most viable units and they can successfully compete giant industries. Precondition of solving all the problems of development is only one i. e. Engineers must whole heartedly accept this work of industrial decentralization. Huge opportunities are eagerly waiting for you where success is ready to greet you. I have prepared practical list of huge scope of making tiny machines and equipments from which about one lakh engineers each can earn one crore rupees! Seems to be unbelievable? No, really it is practicable and achievable. calculations are based on hard facts and on my own experience of 42 years. So take it very seriously. Here is the partial list of huge scope.

(Above list is not exhaustive. Many more items can be added)

Pick up any one item from the above list, persevere behind it and I am sure that you can earn one crore rupees from the selected item as per calculation in last column.

Three lakhs of tiny cotton ginning machines running on single phase 1 HP motor can be established in rural areas which will gin the entire cotton production of India. 40000 tiny bailing presses are required which will press bales of 20 kg weight instead of 170 kg weight. At present India produces 300 lakhs of bales of 170 kg annually. At least 2 crores of tiny spinning units of 8 spindles are absolutely required in our villages throughout India Textile industry is the biggest industry in India responsible for maximum exploitation of villages. If such  tiny spinning units are established, major source of drain of wealth from villages will be plugged and it will create vast opportunities for self employment of villagers. At the same time cloth production will be undoubtedly cheaper in this manner.

Present annual production of 200 lakh tonnes of oilseeds are crushed for edible oil into 50000 expellers throughout India. This industry exploits billions of rupees from villagers every year. If two lakhs of tiny oil mills are manufactured and established in villages, entire exploitation from edible oil industry can be stopped.

here is a vast scope of establishing about one lakh tiny jaggery mills which can  produce  jaggery without producing any molasses. This will yield 14% combined recovery. If this is done, all the present giant sugar mills will have no place in the market.
About two lakhs of tiny rice mills can be established as cottage industry which can easily compete to present big rice mills. Such a tiny rice mill may cost not more than Rs. 50000/-

Cement is not a mysterious product. It is simply a mixture of natural compounds accruing by burning limestone with clay in suitable proportion. No giant plant is necessary for this. Tiny cement plant of 1 TPD  capacity can be developed wherever limestone is available. Such a tiny cement plant will definitely compete to the present giant cement plants of one million tonne per annum capacity. About one lakh such tiny cement plants are absolutely necessary in the country.

There is a possibility of establishment of one lakh micro hydro projects by harnessing every stream of river. This will give cheaper electricity and investment per kilowatt will be reduced half.

There is a scope of about one lakh tiny soap making units in villages. About one lakh unemployed chemistry graduates can be self employed in this industry very easily.

About five lakhs of modern and fuel efficient lime kilns are necessary in villages to manufacture good quality lime.

About one million of cheap vehicles of one tonne capacity running at not more than 30 km. speed and driven by 5 HP single cylinder engine are urgently required in villages. If properly designed, such vehicles should not cost more than Rs. one lakh.

About five million tiny solar power plants are required for villages
for running cottage industries and small scale industries and providing lighting. Solar cookers, solar concentrators, bio gas plants have unimaginable scope.

This is not the exhaustive list. This list can be lengthened still further. Millions of cottage industries based on local raw-materials can be established in various parts of India after studying raw-material and consumption pattern of that particular region. For designing and manufacturing the above machinery, I have estimated that atleast one lakh of engineers can be accommodated and if the entire scheme is implemented, it will generate the self employment opportunities for 50 million people. So if any engineer is genuinely thinking to serve OUR MOTHER INDIA by way of involving himself for the development of decentralized industries for poor people, he himself can choose any one industry from the above. I am sure that he will find vast opportunities even for personal development for earning wealth and profit over and above prospering the country. I can assure that all above business opportunities are sacred in its nature; as it provides chances of development of really needy people.

The opportunities in the above fields are so wide in the present context that there is no risk of competition also. Any person can choose any business and start earning money. This is my personal experience. I started my activity of manufacture of tiny oil mills in 1984. I had not to face any competition. Within three year time only, I was quite well established. So far I have established about 1500 tiny oil mills in 78 countries. But it is just a drop in the ocean. I should clarify that still I do not have any production machinery. I get everything done from tiny machine shops on job work basis and then get it assembled achieving complete decentralization. In spite of this tiny work, I am considered well established industrialist and I am known in 150 countries.

This is the "YUGAKARYA" (mission) for engineers. If you are convinced, then, " Awake ! Arise ! And stop not till the goal is reached ! "

Appeal To Patriotic Elites Of India

I am 74 years mechanical engineer influenced by Gandhiji's thinking since 55 years and working for rural development to increase rural wealth through home scale and village scale industries. I am very much distressed to see dangerous disparity in our country i.e. only a handful of people having captured most of the wealth of the country and millions of masses remaining hand to mouth. I have also observed that our rural people have inner spirit of our culture which has inherent capabilities to surpass to so called westernized urban people. So I am very much optimistic that rural India is competent enough to create finest specimen of humanitarian life style and people's economy free from exploitation, poverty, hunger etc. This unique quality is inherent in our culture which will make India as the strongest country of the world in a very short period of 10 to 20 years.
I am humbly describing myself as real friend and real well wisher of our rural people and I have burning desire to remove their merciless exploitation being done through various multinational big companies and also Governments. I want to humbly show real path of happiness for common masses. I am carrying in my heart certain BASIC CONVICTIONS which force me to suggest that if the path which I am recommending is followed by rural people, it will bring economic revolution in India and also in the world in one or two decades through which we can abolish hunger, unemployment, disparity, war, terrorism etc and  make entire globe full of peace and happiness.

But I have painfully observed that most of our elite and educated people are under illusion that model of development imposed on us by developed countries is correct and path of development shown by them  is real path. So our Central and State Governments follow the same pattern of development as Europe and U.S.A. tell us. So our Governments are trying to establish big industries, are trying to develop highways, cities, power stations, ports, airports and infrastructure required by giant industries. I VENTURE TO ASSERT THAT THIS IS NOT THE PATH OF HAPPINESS BUT THIS IS THE PATH OF EXPLOITATION AND PERMANENT SLAVERY OF OUR PEOPLE. If you want homogeneous development of entire society of millions of masses, you have to evolve your own economic strategy based on local self reliance at least for primary needs of people i.e. for food, cloth and shelter and energy consumed in it. Very evidently this type of local self reliance can be achieved through home scale family size industries based on small and simple technology. Giant complicated machinery and plants have no place in this picture because complicated machinery makes simple thing also complicated.

Primary needs such as wheat flour, rice, cooking oil, sugar, jaggery, soap, cloth, bricks, tiles,  cement, lime and building materials and even electricity are all simple things to produce and  so all these things must be produced at home scale, farm scale and village scale level with very simple and cheap technology. I can suggest quick solution for instant electrification of our villages by tiny thermal power plants run by biomass or by solar.

I have no doubt that everything can be produced at home scale and village scale including cement, sugar, cloth and electricity if dedicated efforts are made to develop small and simple technology for every kind of primary needs. You must know that previously world best quality cloth was produced in millions of houses of India since centuries with very simple tools and equipments not costing even 5000 Rupees. It can be still produced in millions of homes by using solar electricity if we sincerely work for home scale industries. A very fine quality of jaggery (hygienically better than sugar) is still produced at farm scale practically at every sugarcane farm in spite of strict controls of our government to abolish this farm level industry for favoring giant sugar factories. Bricks and lime is still a cottage industry throughout India. There are at least 1200 tiny flour mills in my city alone (population 1.5 million). Oil milling was also cottage industry throughout India since centuries. Our Government made foolish blunder to abolish it. Rice milling can be decentralized very easily by establishing rice hullers driven by steam engines running on rice husks.

So my most sincere advice to our patriotic elite class is that "You should immediately return from the dangerous path which leads to exploitation, ruin and perish. You should evolve your own path based on decentralized, small and simple machinery which will have no exploitative capacity. Only such machinery will be blessing to the humanity.

It is really strange that this question is asked from every part of the world. So it is evident that entire world is brought under this illusion through wrong education that big heavy industries are more viable. This is absolutely wrong. In fact tiny units are always more viable than big centralized industries. One can imagine that tiny units enjoy many inherent advantages over big centralized units such as (1) Transport is eliminated or minimized (2) Packaging is eliminated or people use their own tins, bins, jars etc. So all the advantages will go to tiny units. So they are bound to be far strongly more viable than big centralized units. I have proved this contention beyond doubt by establishing 1800 tiny cooking oil mills which are running most successfully, most profitably and most satisfactorily in India and 85 countries. What is true for tiny oil mills can be proved true for other industries of basic needs including tiny power plants also. So I sincerely appeal to all patriotic elite friends to come out from false illusions of development, to throw away present theory of development, to ponder over the alarming situation of our rural people and seriously adopt this pious work of rural development through tiny scale industries with strong faith that entire world can be got rid of entire exploitation and entire planet can be made happy without any big industry. I am absolutely confident that one who will determine to work in this direction, will definitely meet with great success and he will earn the credit for making great revolutionary changes through small deeds.

I have developed tiny oil mills, tiny jaggery plants, tiny steam power plants based on biomass, steam engines, domestic parabolic solar cookers, small community solar cookers, large solar baskets etc. I have already developed solar water pumping systems and tiny solar plants which are strongly viable. Very soon, I will manufacture domestic wind turbines, tiny cement plants (one tonne/day) etc. My industrial activity is my life mission. Nothing is secret with me. I feel that my family consists of 121 crores for whom I am constantly worrying.

My World Vision For Localization

I am enemy of all big industries.

So I am enemy of big power plants also.
So I am enemy of big solar power plants also.
Transporting sunshine is foolish and impossible.
So solar power should be produced wherever it is consumed.

To produce solar power is simple thing.

Solar panels are available everywhere.

It gives direct electricity for water pumping or running any machine.
It is blessing to humanity.
Every farmer can have it in his farm.
However It is simple to make boiler to produce steam.

Any trained rural technician can do it.

Burn agricultural waste in the boiler and produce steam.
This steam will run steam engine.

Connect generator with it and you produce electricity.

It is simple to make small wind turbines.

Multiply by 250 million and you will have plenty of power everywhere in the world.

So giant thermal power plants and atomic power plants are not required.
So giant hydro electric plants not necessary.
So big dams not required.

Grid lines are also not required.

Complicated technology makes simple thing complicated.

I believe in home scale family size industries.

It is simple to make cloth.

Dhaka's MULMUL(very fine cloth) was produced on simple tools worth 50 dollars.

It is still not produced by sophisticated textile mills.

So textile mills are not required.

Gin your cotton in the farm by solar power with 5 hp motor.

Spin your cotton in your farm by solar power with 1 to 2 hp motors.

Weave your yarn in your village by solar power with 1 hp motor.

This much will increase rural wealth by 8 times.

Multiply by 50 million and you will produce cloth for entire world.

Baling the cotton reduces durability of cloth by 20%.

Half the machinery of textile mill is due to heavily pressed bales.

Remember, centralization creates complications.

Complicated technology makes simple thing complicated.

Big sugar factories are evils. ( I worked as MD of sugar factory before 39 years.)

Sugar is harmful to health. It has 59 dangerous side effects. Beware of it.

Jaggery is hygienic. Sugarcane juice is the best healthy drink.
A small sugarcane juicer running on 1 hp solar motor can crush 1 tonne in 5 hours.
It will produce 2500 glasses of juice, each of 250ml.
So enjoy fresh sugarcane juice whenever you like.
Consume sugarcane for juice drinking.
Discard wine whisky Coca Pepsi and soft drinks in bottles.

However It is simple to produce jaggery.

10hp steam engine can drive sugarcane crusher to crush 24 tonnes/day.

Boiling the juice makes delicious jaggery.

Multiply such units by one million and entire world can enjoy sweets everyday.

one tone sugarcane gives 140 kg jaggery,

But one tonne sugarcane gives only 100 kg sugar.

So sugar factories waste 30 million tonnes molasses making it non edible.

So sugar factories are not required.

Complicated technology makes simple thing complicated.

It is simple to produce rice from paddy.

5hp steam engine can drive rice huller to mill 5 tonnes of paddy in 12 hours.

Rice husks can make steam to drive steam engine.

So you become independent of external power.

Multiply such units by one million and entire world can enjoy rice locally.
Big rice mills waste millions of tonnes of precious food in the name of polishing.

Polished rice is harmful to health.

Unpolished rice is really nutritious and hygienic.
So big rice mills are evils.
So big rice mills are not required.

Complicated technology makes simple thing complicated.

It is simple to press any oilseed and to get oil.

It is simple to provide pure natural fresh edible oil to all.

10 hp steam engine can run small oil expeller with filter press.

Multiply by one million and all the oilseeds of the world will be crushed.

Big oil mills and refineries are evils. Tiny oil mills are blessing.
They exploit the people, adulterate oil, cause cancer by refining oil.
My tiny oil mills are running successfully in 86 countries.

Complicated technology makes simple thing complicated.

 Cement is not mysterious product.

Burn limestone powder with clay by coal dust and you get cement.

It is simple to produce cement and lime.

10hp steam engine will make limestone powder for one tonne cement per day.
Then mix with clay and coal powder and make nodules by adding water.
Burn in a simple kiln, get clinker, grind it to get cement.

Multiply by 2 million and all the people will get cement at negligible cost.

Giant cement plants are not essential for it.

Complicated technology makes simple thing complicated.

Water pumping is backbone of our agriculture and irrigation.
5 to 10 Hp solar pumps can do excellent job of water pumping from any depth.
We are unnecessarily depending on grid power.
Freedom from grid power is the most valuable freedom.
Let us strive for freedom from governments, freedom from big companies.
Let us enjoy independence, freedom and liberty through localization.

British Empire was built and was expanded simply by big steam engines.

Present globalization and centralization can be broken simply by local power.
In this picture, no big factories, no big companies, no multinational corporations. No stock market. No acquisition of land. No displacement of people.

Local production and local consumption. Minimum transport.

No big cities, no exploitation,no billionaires.

Small farms, small farmers. Self reliant life style.

Everybody works, everybody enjoys tension free happy life.

People become stronger, Government becomes weaker.

This is true democracy.

This is what Mahatma Gandhi wanted. He asserted that "Precondition of happy society is that all the means of production of primary needs of people must be in the hands of common masses." Do not centralize it. He also asserted "We must learn how to make appropriate use of steam and electricity."

We have betrayed Gandhiji and we are betraying him at every moment.

We are killing Gandhiji at every moment.

Sooner or later, entire world has to go on this path.

If Europe and America can adopt this path, world will become paradise.

My Mission of Decentralization

Mahatma Gandhiji has asserted that to create a happy society, means of production of primary needs of people must be in the hand of common masses. It means that primary needs of the people must be produced by the people with simple and cheap technology affordable by common people.

So I have selected six basic necessities to be produced by common people at home scale or village scale level.

  1. Edible oil
  2. Sugarcane Jaggery
  3. Rice
  4. Cloth
  5. Electricity and power
  6. Cement which is key commodity for rural construction.

So my dream is to decentralize all these six industries up to home scale and village scale level.

Decentralization Of Cooking Oil Industry:

Entire requirement of edible oil was produced in India by half million OIL GHANIs before independence. People used to get pure, fresh, natural cooking oil throughout India. There was no big oil mills or oil expellers before 65 years. Then because of encouragement of government for big industries only,  all the ghanis collapsed only in 5 years time and big big oil mills emerged which are supplying adulterated oil to the people at high cost. I am trying to decentralize this industry since last 30 years. I designed tiny oil mill which can crush 3 tons of oil seeds in 24 hours and can be operated by 2 persons. It is driven by 10 HP power, either diesel engine or electric motor or steam engine. It occupies only 300 to 400 sq ft area. It can provide cooking oil to one village of 6000 population So far I have established 600 tiny oil mills in India, mostly around 200 km radius of Rajkot, which are crushing 1,50,000 to 1,80,000 tons of oil seeds worth 4000 million rupees every year and providing pure, fresh and natural cooking oil to more then half million families. Further my tiny oil mills have spread into 85 countries out of India and everywhere it is working most successfully. So tiny oil mill is family size village industry. Global scope of this industry is at least one million units of tiny oil mills. Against this much huge scope, I have established only 1600 tiny oil mills, which is only a drop in a ocean. But I have already proved in 85 countries that idea of more viability for bigger unit is totally false. I have already proved practically that smaller is more viable. Interested people can go through my article in my website BENEFITS OF DECENTRALIZED COOKING OIL INDUSTRY. Indian people can also read my Hindi book TEL UDYOG KA SWADESHIKARAN.

Decentralization Of Sugar Industry:

Entire sugar industry all over the world spread into thousands of huge sugar factories has very badly trapped the entire world into sugar which is nothing but very much harmful poisonous substance. Any government caring for the health of people must impose ban on producing sugar. Really poisons should not be allowed to produce and to market it.  In fact jaggery must be produced from sugarcane which is far more nutritious than sugar with minerals and vitamins and really blessing for the humanity. 35 years back I happen to work as a Managing Director of a big sugar factory. Then I came to know how dangerous sugar is. Most dangerous gas Sulfur dioxide is involved in sugar production. There are 59 side effects of sugar to human body (See in my website).

Compared to sugar factory, investment in jaggery making is only 2% for the same installed capacity. Jaggery production is always at farm scale level. It provides 40 times more employment than sugar factory compared with equal installed capacity. 100 kg of sugarcane produces 10 kg of sugar only. But same 100 kg of sugarcane can produce 14 kg of jaggery. So jaggery production will be 40% more than sugar production. So you cannot find any virtue of sugar or sugar factory.

Before independence jaggery was produced in India at farm scale level predominantly with the presence of a few sugar factories. Our foolish government encouraged sugar factories and discouraged and banned jaggery industry. So share of jaggery industry has reduced in 65 years from 90 % to 30% only. India now produces 350 million tons of sugarcane out of which 250 million tons are going to sugar factories and remaining 100 million tons goes for jaggery making. Government constantly discouraged and banned jaggery industry in favor of vested interests of sugar lobby. In fact if jaggery is encouraged in India, we are capable of providing and feeding this most delicious and nutritious sweet jaggery to 150 countries of the world over and above India.

Just recently I have taken up to encourage farm size jaggery plants owned by farmers to make them more viable. Jaggery plant runs by 10HP electric motor or diesel engine. Such 30,000 jaggery plants are running in India. Juice is boiled into jaggery by open pan boiling process. Lot of heat is going into flue gases which can be gainfully utilized to make steam and to run jaggery plant by steam engine free of cost. This way farmer can save diesel expense of Rs 200000 every year. If government encourages to convert jaggery plant from diesel operated to steam operated, the import bill of petroleum can be reduced by 6000 million rupees. So there is a huge scope of converting existing diesel operated jaggery plants to power independent steam operated jaggery plants. This will be environment friendly step. So There will be win win situation for everyone.

I am already manufacturing steam engines. Rural people have enough skill to fabricate very small waste heat boiler. State government should exempt such small boilers running in remote farms from the strict provisions of Boiler Act. Government of California has exempted all the boilers working in farms from the boiler act. Every state government of India has power to exempt boiler act under section 34(3). Any government caring  for people must exempt such tiny boilers from boiler act. It will speed up rural industrialization and rural electrification very speedily.

Decentralization Of Rice Mill Industry

India produces 200 million tons of paddy which entirely goes to big rice mills. Rural rice milling activity has been totally abolished by anti people government policy. Rice mills have capacity from 2 ton/hour to 8 ton/hour and they consume electricity from 50 HP to 200 HP in each rice mill. All the rice mills of India roughly consume 4000 MW of power which is equivalent to entire production of nuclear power plants in India.

Now look the fun. Every rice mill generates 25 to 27% rice husks which is excellent eco fuel and which can generate more power than rice mill consumes. Now heaps of rice husks are lying here and there just as a waste. In fact it is a very much precious fuel for green power. If we care for people, rice mills should not be centralized. Hulling of paddy is a simple process and no much investment is needed. Centrifugal rice huller can be driven by 5 HP motor and it can process 500 kg of paddy per hour. Such small rice hullers must be installed in every rice farm and all these rice hullers must be driven by small rice husk gasifiers or small steam engines. In processing paddy using rice husk, only 50% rice husk will be required and 50% will remain surplus. Such surplus rice husk can be utilized to produce electricity during the night. This way 60 million rural homes can be electrified with green energy of rice husk and entire problem of rural electrification can be solved by rice husks only and 4000 MW power consumed by big rice mills also can be saved. So all the nuclear power plants can be closed down by this rice husk revolution. Interested persons should read my article  RICE HUSK REVOLUTION (In my website).

One more point. Big rice mills make criminal offense against humanity by polishing rice just for a whiteness and destroy all the better nutritious elements from the outer part of the rice which they remove in polishing. So rice quantity is reduced by 10% and what they offer to the public is polished rice which is stuff less. If we switch over to decentralized farm scale rice hullers in every village, 300000 such hullers will work with independent power of rice husk and will increase the rural wealth by 1 trillion. So huge scope for decentralization of rice milling industry.

Decentralization Of Textile Industry

India produces 300 lakhs ( 30 million) of bales of cotton. It is far more than installed capacity of spinning mills in India. So roughly 30% bales are exported. Entire spinning industry is heavily centralized. Mahatma Gandhiji opposed this centralization an preached to people to make their own clothes in homes only. Centralized process of spinning mill is completely unscientific because pressing of bales reduces the durability of cloth by 20%. Loose cotton spinning gives more durable cloth. India was famous for hand made cloth throughout the world. It was only hand spun and hand woven, but British government took keen interest in abolishing this home scale textile industry for their selfish purpose. But after independence our government proved the worst and they encouraged heavily centralized textile industry and did not allow to grow any decentralized spinning activity. Big spinning mill has 50,000 spindles or if smaller 24,000 spindles. But in Tamil Nadu, South India 2000 smaller spinning mills from 2000 spindles to 8000 spindles have come up and are working more successfully than big textile mills. There is a further scope of decentralization from 2000 spindles to only 500 spindles. Our Saurashtra region of Gujarat state (Rajkot is the center of it) is producing 9 million of cotton bales but there is no any spinning mill here. So I made a survey and found that there is a scope of about 5000 small spinning mills upto 2000 spindles and I wrote a article to create awareness among the people. One cotton federation invited me for a speech in their annual general meeting. There after people are thinking in this direction seriously. I have also written a 240 page book in Hindi named GAVO KA NAVSARJAN in which I have described in full detail about my mission of decentralization of various industries. It is also creating awareness among the farmers about the possibilities of tiny spinning mills. As a result of this awareness, one such spinning mill owned by farmers has come up in a remote sea shore village and is now running successfully since April 2014. Once such 10 to 15 mills start working in villages owned by farmers, hundreds of  such tiny spinning mills will come up. There is a further scope of decentralization of spinning activity up to  home scale level say 50 to 100 spindles running on solar panel in home only. All such decentralized spinning mills use loose cotton and ginning the cotton will also become a part of spinning mill. So expenses will be less and yarn will be more durable. This way, cotton spinning can be decentralized up to home scale level in next 15 years.

Exploitation of rural people through textile mills is the biggest. Roughly 2 trillion Rupees are drained from villages to cities through textile industry only. This exploitation can be abolished and self employment of 50 million people can be created by decentralization of textile industry including ginning, spinning, weaving and cloth processing.

Decentralization Of Power Houses

Giant Electricity Power Houses such as giant thermal power plants or giant nuclear power plants are established  either by governments by collecting tax from the people or by giant private companies by collecting huge money by way of shares of the company. In either cases, money comes from the people.

Giant  Electricity Power Houses give rise to giant factories, centralize production and create Giant Economic Power Houses. They promote huge scale coal mining, displace people, create huge scale pollution, misuse all available resources on the planet and conspire against the people by promoting Giant Economic Power Houses.

Giant Economic Power Houses ally with political parties and create Giant Political Power Houses.

Giant Political Power Houses work for Giant Economic Power Houses and restrict or abolish the freedom and liberty of the people and exploit the people by more and more taxes in the name of development and create monopolies for heavily centralized Giant Economic Power Houses which again support to Giant Political Power Houses.

So root cause of every evil is Giant Electricity Power Houses and grid lines joining them.

Common masses do not get any benefit from such Giant Electricity Power Houses or if they get a little just for lights in  homes, it is just a trash and trifle, just as I get benefit of removing cold if my house is burning. Please remember the fact that half of India has no electricity connection in their homes in spite of 200000MW installed capacity of Giant Electricity Houses.

All evils such as exploitation, poverty, starvation, unemployment, hunger,  displacement, terrorism, urbanization, war etc are essentially the consequences of  alliance of Giant Economic Power Houses and Giant Political Power Houses through Giant Electricity Power Houses.

So to remove the root cause of evils, we must find out alternative of Giant Electricity Power Houses.

Steam engine is the biggest revolutionary weapon to abolish TRIO of Giant Electricity Power Houses, Giant Economic power Houses and Giant Political Power Houses, all at a stretch.

Steam engine is the most effective tool to build up local economy and to bring freedom and happiness to people.

Steam engine is appropriate  equipment to abolish all evils such as unemployment, poverty, hunger, inequality etc.

Steam engine can run home scale, farm scale and village scale tiny and small power plants in millions of numbers working on solar or biomass.

So small steam engines will prove to be the World Scene Changer Machines in this 21st century creating freedom and happiness for common masses.

Entire British empire was built and expanded in the world only by big steam engines.

We can abolish present exploitative economic structure by  small steam engines, by decentralization and localization of all industries.

All local small family scale industries are far more viable than big centralized industries. So all basic need industries such as rice, edible oil, jaggery, sugar, textile, power, cement are technically and economically more viable and sustainable as most of these industries are self sufficient in power also such as tiny rice mill can generate its own power, tiny jaggery plant can generate its own power, tiny oil mill can generate its own power and where ever power is required, solar powered steam engine can be attached to it. So no infrastructure of roads, rails, mega cities, petroleum exploration, coal mining, heavy transportation will be required. No exploitation of whatsoever. Everywhere freedom and happiness.

But more prospective decentralization is coming through photo voltaic solar pumps and solar power plants of 5 to 10 KW capacity. It is completely automatic and works for 20 years without any maintenance or manpower. It overtakes to thermal power plants and it becomes cheaper and cheaper day by day. So there is bright prospects for 20 million solar pumps for irrigation and there is bright possibilities to generate 8 lakh MW solar power in small farms of India and make surplus power in India.

Small wind mills have also a huge scope. About 50 million of tiny wind turbines from 50 W to 200 W can be installed in rural areas just to provide lights to homes. About 1 crore small wind turbines from 500 W to 3 KW can be developed and installed in homes and also for running home scale industries and for pumping water also. Very small gasifiers also have a huge scope. About 30,000 jaggery units in India can run by steam engines and steam can be produced free of cost simply from waste heat going to chimney. Compressed air operated three wheelers carrying two passengers or 200 KG load seem to have scope in millions. Conversion of petrol car to electric car also have a scope in millions in India  Interested engineers and technicians should read my articles HUGE SCOPE OF TINY SOLAR THERMAL POWER PLANTS, HUGE SCOPE OF SMALL WIND TURBINES and RICE HUSK REVOLUTION.

Decentralization Of Cement Industry

At present lime is produced in every village by very poor people without using any machinery. Cement is just a little advanced technology then lime. So it also can be produced with simple technology at every spot of the limestone. Cement is not mysterious product which can not be produced without giant complicated cement plant. Simple cement plant of 1 ton per day will be most practical and most viable unit in rural area for common people producing 20 bags of cement by illiterate people. Pulverizing of lime stone, pulverizing common clay, pulverizing coal dust, mixing this ingredients thoroughly in double cone mixer and nodulising in very simple noduliser and firing in a batch type vertical kiln will make the cement of best quality which even cannot be prepared by giant cement plants. But I do not emphasis quality of cement. If it is little inferior, no problem at all. Inferior quality cement gets maximum compressive strength after a few more days say 15 days to 30 days instead of 7 days. This is the only difference in the quality of difference. Prudent and rural people will tolerate this variation and while making the roof slabs bottom support will not be removed until one month. But anyhow cement industry must be decentralized to one million plants of 1 ton capacity each which may require investment of about 2 lakh rupees.

Limestone burning is exothermic process generating lot of heat. Somehow this generated heat should be utilized for running the cement plant and outside power should not be required. If decentralizes cement technology is fully disseminated to every village, cement cost will be reduced to 25% of the present price and huge exploitation of 1.5 trillion rupees (1.5 lakh crores) will be saved by the people. It means that wealth of the common people will be increased by 1,50,000 crores.

But still bigger benefit of decentralized cement industry will be eye opening to everybody. The present cement production is utilized for constructing big dams, bif factories, big cities, big infrastructure, big highways etc. All this lead to slavery of common masses and ultimately it leads to the death of population. Decentralized cement production will  be utilized in villages to construct poor peoples home, for check dams, for wells, for small godowns for storing grains. All this lead to real prosperity and real swaraj of the people.

So please accept small, encourage small and discard big big bogus things and be happy.
I invite the interested entrepreneurs to take up this activity of manufacturing tiny oil mills, tiny rice mills, tiny jaggery plants, tiny textile projects, tiny solar power plants, tiny cement plants etc on mass scale level as a mission of decentralization or even for earning money. Total benefit of this activity of decentralization will result in generation of wealth by common people of the value of 10 lakh crores i.e. 10 trillion rupees. So this activity will entirely change India from poverty to prosperity in one decade only. This is real swadeshi of Mahatma Gandhi and I am trying to advocate it and implement it alone. If I get 100000 engineers like me, real miracle will happen and heaven will descent on the earth, atleast on Indian land.

Similar to India, there is a huge scope of this activity to spread throughout the world.

Technology For Life ? OR Technology For Mass Exploitation ?

Mostly business people are  honest in their dealings. They work honestly with their customers.
Most of the machinery manufacturers and suppliers have a tendency to make and sell bigger and bigger machines. Naturally bigger machine has bigger profit. So everybody is tempted to  sell bigger machines and bigger plants. They take satisfaction that they are working honestly. They are under the impression that they are participating or contributing to the process of development of society as  a whole.

But they do not consider effect of the big machines and big plants on the society.

Each machine  or a plant has a exploitative capacity. So bigger  machines and bigger plants create centralized production, accumulate wealth in a handful of people, create mass scale unemployment, hunger and starvation. So big machines invariably create mass scale exploitation.
The ultimate result of   so called industrialization is that  4 billion people out of the 7 billion people of the world have been thrown in to miseries and they have become victim of poverty, unemployment, hunger, starvation, malnutritions, diseases  and they are bound to die in this situation. On the contrary  2 billion more people are likely to be thrown into poverty, unemployment, hunger, starvation, malnutritions, diseases etc only because of centralized industries. So Mahatma Gandhi has forecasted that industrialization in India is going to be a curse to the humanity because it will invariably result into automatic  killing of entire population except 10 millions will be survived.
So this process of industrialization is being accelerated by machinery manufacturers and traders. Tragedy is that those who manufacture big machines and big plants, innocently believe that they are encouraging development process of the society. In fact their development invariably results into destruction of masses.

So every engineer, every  manufacturer, every industrialist, every trader should ponder over and search inside their heart what they are doing and what will be the effect of their technology on the society.

So we should discriminate between TECHNOLOGY FOR MASS EXPLOITATION and TECHNOLOGY FOR LIFE . All big machines, big machinery, big plants is the Technology for Mass Exploitation which will ultimately result in indirect killing of entire humanity. So it is curse.

On the other hand, very small machines, very small plants manageable by 3 to 4 person of family without employing anybody from outside will result in sustaining family; as such small family size plant has no exploitative capacity. So their must be millions and billions of such family enterprises which can work it independently, produce locally and consume locally without wastage of transport. This is TECHNOLOGY FOR LIFE. This is the right way of peaceful living in the world. So I   appeal to every engineer,  every machinery manufacturer, plant suppliers etc etc to think over whether their technology is for mass exploitation or their technology is for life. If you feel that  your technology is for mass exploitation, then you should try to avoid it, discard it and to switch over to Technology for  Life which will create happy society.

I have thought very deeply that you can earn more money by propagating technology for life. Making money simply by big big machines is wrong idea, sinful idea and it will lead to the world war and destruction of humanity.
